RGGO stands for Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin. These certificates provide verified proof that gas has been produced from renewable sources. Unlike other certificates, RGGOs are issued per KWH.

Our RGGO auction is one of our most recent auctions launches and became a permanent feature of our calendar in 2025 following a number of successful auctions.
Ahead of each auction round, you will be invited to enrol, giving you access to a wide network of UK renewable generators offering RGGOs. Our platform brings together electricity producers and certificate buyers in a single, transparent trading environment.
Once registered as a buyer, you will be issued secure login details that allow you to enter the auction system and view the RGGO volumes and generating sites available for purchase.
When the auction opens, you can place bids on RGGOs from individual renewable projects. This allows you to build a portfolio of certificates that aligns with your electricity supply, sustainability targets, or reporting requirements.
Bidding opens once the auction goes live at 10am on the day of the auction. The bidding window lasts 30 minutes, and if no higher bids are placed, the lot will be awarded. In cases of high competitive bidding, the auction may roll over into the following day. The auction will close once no further bids are received.
If you secure RGGOs in an auction, you will receive a single invoice covering the full value of all successful lots. Once payment has been received, the certificates will be transferred to you

To get started, you simply enter into our Agency Agreement, which authorises us to market your RGGOs. Before each auction, we contact you to confirm the volumes you wish to put forward for sale.
Your RGGOs are transferred electronically to our RGGO register, ready to be listed in the auction, and a reserve price is agreed with you in advance. RGGOs can be sold for current and previous production periods, subject to Ofgem rules.
Buyers review the available certificates and place bids through the online auction platform. Once your RGGOs are successfully sold, we collect payment from the buyer and settle with you, typically within around seven days of the auction closing. You do not need to manage multiple counterparties as we handle the full sales and settlement process for you.

RGGOs are purchased by energy suppliers, businesses, and organisations that want to demonstrate the renewable origin of their gas consumption. They are used to support green gas tariffs, carbon reporting, sustainability disclosures, and renewable energy claims.
RGGOs are issued to biomethane producers registered with the Green Gas Certification Scheme (GGCS), primarily anaerobic digestion (AD) operators injecting gas into the grid. Each unit of renewable gas produced generates a corresponding certificate. For producers, RGGOs provide an additional income stream alongside gas sales, allowing them to monetise the environmental value of their production.
RGGOs can be complemented by sustainability certification schemes such as the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). While RGGOs confirm that renewable gas has been injected into the UK grid, ISCC certification provides verified evidence that the biomethane meets recognised sustainability and greenhouse gas criteria and is widely used to demonstrate compliance with requirements under frameworks such as the Renewable Energy Directive II.
ISCC certification also enables the issuance of Proof of Sustainability (PoS) documentation, which records detailed information on feedstock origin, lifecycle emissions, and supply chain traceability. For UK producers, this combination can facilitate access to European buyers by providing trusted and standardised sustainability verification, which is often requested in cross-border biomethane trading and corporate procurement.
