SELLERS

Using our online auction to sell your energy and certificates

If you generate renewable energy (e.g. wind, solar, hydropower, biomass, geothermal or tidal) you may be eligible to sell your excess power and/or associated certificates back to the grid.

At e-POWER we help electricity generators easily sell their energy and certificates through our online auction and client support team.

Selling Your Electricity in 6 Easy Steps

You give us information such as the type of energy you generate, the size of your generating station(s), your location and some historic data on your generation if you have it.

We calculate an expected price you could receive per MWh generated, based on your information

You decide if you would like to sell your electricity – and if you would like to sell the associated energy certificates at the same time.*  We can be as flexible as you need to be in this respect.  If you decide to go ahead, then you would first sign our Agency Agreement, giving us permission to sell energy on your behalf.

We list your generating station(s) on our online auction, along with the reserve bid (if required) per MWh for your electricity.  Potential purchasers then analyse and bid on the energy they want to buy. You can even view the bids on your site if you wanted to during the auction.  No need to negotiate with individual potential purchasers of your energy – our online auction brings them all to one, simple trading platform.

Once the auction has ended, we inform you what has been sold and the price you received for your electricity. Within a few days we will then send you the Power Purchase Agreement to sign to formalise the sale of your energy with the purchaser, and they will then register your meter(s).  We have our own Power Purchase Agreement arranged with all potential buyers, meaning you don’t have to deal with lots of different contracts, depending on who has bought your power.

We deal with all billing and settlements for you as well, handling all individual payments from the purchasers and issuing you with one, simple payment on behalf of everyone.  This is for the duration of the term for which you have agreed to sell your energy (typically 6-12 months).  You will usually be paid three weeks after the month in which the electricity is generated.  We request the half-hourly data of energy generated from the purchaser and use this to invoice them and then pay this money to you.

Selling Your Energy Certificates (REGO and ROC) in 4 Easy Steps

If you have ROCs or REGOs (renewable energy certificates) to sell, we can do this on your behalf through our online auction, where a multitude of potential certificate purchasers come together in one easy platform.

First you would sign our Agency Agreement, giving us permission to sell your certificates. We then contact you before each auction to ask how many certificates you might have to sell.

Your certificates are then digitally transferred to our holding account via Ofgem, ready to be sold, and a suggested reserve price is set.  You can sell ROCs for the current and previous compliance period (April to March) and you can sell REGOs in the current compliance period only (annual deadline 1st July).

Potential purchasers then analyse and bid on the certificates they want to buy through the online auction.  Once your certificates have been purchased, we are paid by the purchaser and then we pay you, typically within around 7 days of the auction finishing.  No need to deal with individual purchasers, we do this on your behalf – you only need to deal with our outstanding support team.

Common Query:

Do I have to sell my certificates and electricity separately?

You can choose to sell your electricity only.  Or you can choose to sell your certificates only.  Or you can choose to sell both at the same time.  It’s really up to you.  If you sell your energy and certificates together then this means that you get paid in advance for your certificates before they have been generated.  If you are selling certificates only, you are only able to sell them once the energy to which they are associated is sold and they have been generated.

BUYERS

Using our online auction to buy energy and certificates

If you have renewable energy obligations we can help you meet your requirements through the purchase of renewable electricity and/or associated certificates through our simple online auction platform.

Before each auction we will invite you to register to participate, giving you access to a multitude of individual power and certificate generators.  We facilitate trading in electricity and energy certificates.

You will receive a user name and a password to gain entry to the auction, where you can view generator sites in advance for your own analysis prior to bidding.  You will be able to see the type of power, how much is available and the location of the site.  If it is a certificate auction you will be able to see the type of certificate.

On the day of a power auction you will bid for the right to receive electricity from renewable generating stations for a specified period.  Within a power auction, there will also be the option to bid for electricity along with the associated certificates, if offered by the generator.   For a certificate auction only, you will be bidding for the purchase of certificates only.

Bidding takes place over our secure online auction platform during business ours of 10am – 5pm, though you can place bids in advance outside of this time. During the auction, you can see current highest bids, how long the bidding window remains open and the final bid price. Due to the competitive nature of the auction, large numbers of bids are made, with auctions lasting several days if there are a large number of generator sites.  There is a 90-minute bidding window in the auction. If no higher bid is made within the bidding window, the hammer comes down on that site.

If you have successfully bid within an energy auction, you will then receive PPAs for the sites you have won at the auction for you (and the generator) to sign. These give you the right to all the electricity generated and all the associated benefits (ROCs, REGOs) that may apply.

We deal with the administration of all of your generator sites, meaning you only have one supplier to deal with – us!
